Supplementaries 3.9.9 released on 10 September 2026 with four fixes: a pulley animation that misbehaved on the first pull, cannon boat shoot range, a flags banner config item renderer, and a change to how hourglasses load. It is a maintenance release for one of the strangest and most useful block mods in Minecraft.
What Supplementaries is
It fills gaps. Not with systems or dimensions or progression – with the blocks vanilla Minecraft obviously should have and does not. Sconces. Rope pulleys. Signposts. Hourglasses. Flags. A pancake. Clock blocks that actually tell the time.
Every single one is something players had been faking with existing blocks for a decade. The mod’s design principle is to look at a workaround and build the real thing.
The pulley animation fix
Rope pulleys raise and lower rope, which is how the mod does elevators, drawbridges and anything that needs to move vertically without pistons. An animation that was wrong on the first pull is cosmetic, and it is the kind of cosmetic problem that makes a mechanism feel unreliable even when it works.
Builders notice this immediately. A mechanism that visually stutters on activation reads as broken regardless of whether the block ends up in the right place.
Why a “small blocks” mod is worth a slot
Because the constraint on Minecraft building is vocabulary, not effort. You can build almost anything with vanilla blocks given enough time, and the thing that limits most builds is not having a block that reads as the thing you want – a lamp, a bookshelf with actual books, a rope going down a shaft.
Adding thirty such blocks does more for what you can build than adding a new dimension does. Building mods that add blocks without adding systems makes the case at length, and Supplementaries is the clearest example in the category.
What it deliberately avoids
- No progression. Nothing here gates anything else.
- No new ores or materials to find.
- No mobs.
- No config required to make it feel vanilla – it already does.
That restraint is the reason it appears in packs alongside mods that would otherwise fight it. A mod with no systems cannot conflict with another mod’s systems.
The cannon boat detail
Cannon boat shoot range being fixed is a reminder that the mod does have a few pieces that go beyond decoration. They are optional, configurable and generally disabled in packs that want strict vanilla balance, which the mod supports rather than resists.

Three releases in eight days, all fixes. That pace usually means either a large release just landed or a version transition is underway – here it is the latter, with the 26.3 cycle beginning.
Where it fits with other building mods
It overlaps slightly with furniture mods and barely at all with the Macaw’s family, which handles bridges, doors, roofs and fences. Running Supplementaries plus two or three Macaw’s mods is close to the standard building loadout, and the combination covers most of what vanilla leaves out.

Version availability
The 3.9.x line targets 1.21.1 on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge. As with several mods maintained by authors with large 1.21 audiences, the newest Minecraft version is not where the active development is.
A note on hourglasses
The changelog mentions changing how hourglasses load. Hourglasses in this mod measure real elapsed time and emit a redstone signal, which makes them the only vanilla-style timer that does not require a repeater loop. Anything touching how they load is touching save data for anyone who built with them, which is why it is worth a line in the notes.
The blocks people actually use
- Sconces and wall lanterns – vanilla’s lighting options are limited and ugly on walls.
- Rope and pulleys, for shafts and elevators.
- Signposts, which point somewhere and read as infrastructure.
- Planters and flower boxes, for windows.
- Shelves and jars, which do storage that looks like storage.
Those five account for most of the mod’s use in practice. The pancake, the ash blocks and the more eccentric additions sit in the creative menu and stay there, which is fine – a block pack is judged by its best twenty items, not its full list.
Configuration and packs
Nearly everything in the mod can be disabled individually, which is why pack authors include it even when they want strict control over what players get. Turning off the handful of gameplay items leaves a pure decoration mod.
That configurability is the reason it coexists with mods that would otherwise duplicate it. Two furniture mods fight; a furniture mod and a configurable block pack do not.
Version strategy
The active line targets 1.21.1, which is where the packs are. A mod this embedded in modpacks has little reason to chase the newest Minecraft version, and moving early would strand the audience that made it popular.
